The Elder Scrolls Have New Things

The Elder Scroll Online was feeling paralyzed with freedom. Where Diablo 3 offers structured character classes, The Elder Scroll Online classes are almost inconsequential. Sure, you can start as a Witch, but nothing is stopping you from investing all your points into strength and turning her into a sledgehammer-wielding melee maniac.

Bethesda has also released the free Update 17, which introduces an outfit system that allows you to customise your character's appearance to your liking regardless of what gear they're wearing. It looks pretty robust, and you'll pay gold to change the look of your helmet, chest, shoulders, hands, waist, legs, feet and weapons individually. The full system is explained in detail here.

The DLC works alongside the upcoming update 16 to add a new transmutation system that you can use to alter traits on your gear. The transmutation vendor will be based at the heart of the brass fortress.

Summerset is a lush, lovely place, "but trouble is hiding in the shadows, and corruption threatens to destroy High Elf society from within," Bethesda said. That may be why Queen Ayrenn has opened the borders to outsiders for the first time in Altmeri history, and also why she's not actually living there right now. Instead, her cousin, Alwinarwe, rules as regent, aided by Khajit spy Razum-dar, Valsirenn of the Psijic Order, and Alchemy, a performer in the House of Reveries.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Summerset will go live on PC on May 21, and is available for pre-purchase now in multiple editions, including a swanky physical release that comes with a statue of the Daedric Prince Mephala. Pre-purchasing will also net you the Queen's Bounty Pack, with the Court of Bedlam costume, a Pocket Salamander pet, treasure maps, a Psijic Vault Crown crate, and experience boosters, plus a digital copy of the Morrowind DLC and the Nightmare Senche mount.
